Birdlife International Important Bird Area (IBA) Program
The Bahamas National Trust is participating in Birdlife International's Important Bird Area (IBA) Program for the Insular Caribbean. The Important Bird Areas Program aims to ensure the long-term conservation of a global network of critically important bird and biodiversity sites that in combination encompass all major ecosystems and protect the world's avian species.
Key activities include identifying sites of global biodiversity importance, undertake conservation feasibility assessments for the highest priority sites, initiate conservation and sustainable use activities at the highest priority sites and secure resources for site-based actions. Project outputs include information gaps being identified and filled, priority sites identified and mapped, sites identified according to their threats and opportunities, and conservation feasibility assessments completed for at least 1 high priority site or demonstration site.
