The BNT held their Annual General Meeting on March 25th at The Retreat Garden. The purpose of the meeting is to update members on the annual work of the Trust, provide a financial report and elect the officers and Council for the next year.

Mr. Glenn Bannister in his annual report to membership commented that he had been honoured to serve as president as the organization celebrated its 50th Anniversary. “Truly a high point in our 50th Anniversary celebrations was the evening of our Gala Ball, when the government of The Bahamas indicated its confidence in the BNT by creating a new park in Abaco, The Fowl Cays National Park, expanded the Andros West Side National Park and annexed the very important marine environs of Conception Island to the Conception Island National Park.” He ended by thanking the Council, Executive Committee, staff and volunteers for their hard work and dedication to the vision of our founders.

Four very special BNT volunteers were recognized for their outstanding dedication and commitment to the Bahamas National Trust: Karin Sanchez, Grand Bahama Regional Committee Chair; Robin Symonette, Honorary Secretary and Gala Ball Chair, Carleton Robertson, Cuban Pig Roast Coordinator andGala Ball Committee; and Beth Bethell, Christmas Jollification Committee and Gala Ball Committee.

The Council spent Friday discussing the business of the Trust, reviewing departmental reports and the finances of the organization. Saturday saw Council members in an entirely different mode as they visited Bonefish Pond National Park to look at the new Boardwalk and viewing platform. From Bonefish Pond they travelled to the Primeval Forest where work was underway on the new trails in this very special park which protects old growth forest and unique geological formations.
