Bahamas National Trust Celebrates 50 Years. The opening activity for the BNT's 50th anniversary celebration was a Thanksgiving Service at St. Matthew's Church on January 21.
BNT Receives Support for Abaco National Parks. Discovery Land Company (DLC), developers of The Baker’s Bay Golf and Ocean Club at Great Guana Cay, Abaco, continued their support of the Bahamas National Trust this week by presenting the organization with a cheque for $100,000 the second installment of a $600,000 3 year commitment to the organization and the national parks on Abaco.
The Bahamas National Trust in partnership with the Department of Marine Resources will hold a public lecture on Monday January 26th at 7:00 p.m. at The Retreat on Village Road. We are very fortunate to have Prof. Yvonne Sadovy, (B.Sc (Hons.), PhD. Manchester) visiting The Bahamas from 17 through 27 January, 2009. Her visit provides an opportunity for Bahamians to learn about the status of Nassau groupers throughout the wider Caribbean, and understand the importance of grouper populations in the Bahamian archipelago.
The Bahamas National Trust’s Discovery Club has received a $30,000 commitment from First Caribbean International Bank ( FCIB) supporting this highly acclaimed environmental club over a three year period.
The Bahamas National Trust has reviewed and commented on the environmental evaluation of Bimini Bay submitted to the government by Black & Veatch (a US‐based engineering, consulting and construction company) in September and recently made public by the BEST Commission.
In 2005, The Bahamas National Trust with the support of The Nature Conservancy and local partners began working in Andros to promote the expansion of the existing West Side National Park to include crucial terrestrial and marine nursery habitats.
The Nassau Garden Club made a special presentation at the Christmas Jollification Members evening on Friday, November 21st. Mrs. Higgs and Mrs. Hazelwood were active members of the BNT’s Retreat Committee for many years.
BNT attends IUCN Meeting in Spain

The World Conservation Congress concluded its work in Barcelona, Spain on October 16th after two weeks that brought together over 8,000 government officials, environmentalists, scientists, business people, NGO leaders and other delegates concerned with the fate of the planet and the threats to the survival of species and ecosystems.
BNT's Wardens and young interns from Inagua were busy in July assisting sea turtle researchers, Karen Bjorndal PhD and Alan Bolten PhD conduct research on juvenile sea turtles who call Union Creek Reserve home for the first 8 - 10 year of their lives.
