Temple Christian Discovery Club

Temple Christian School’s Discovery Club held their awards ceremony at the BNT Retreat Garden on Thursday, February 4, 2010. The Club of 32 students is coordinated by Ms.Sanshea Adderley with assistance from a number of volunteer teachers. The students completed the required activities for their Bugs and Environment Badges and received their Discovery Club sashes and BNT Membership Cards. As part of their Discovery Club activities they have also begun school aluminum can recycling programme, as well as a tree planting initiative on their campus. The awards ceremony included a special presentation by Mrs. Andrea Tanguay, Marketing Manager of First Caribbean International Bank, of the second $10,000 installment of a $30,000 grant which is supporting the BNT’s Discovery Club Programme.

Discovery Club is an exciting after-school badge programme which focuses on the natural history of The Bahamas incorporating classroom activities with outdoor experiences. This fun learning experience places emphasis on the national parks and protected areas of The Bahamas with special emphasis on environmental stewardship.

The BNT’s Discovery Club programme is run in partnership with a number of schools, environmental NGO’s and representatives from Family Islands in order to expand the opportunity for young people between the ages of 6-12 to participate. Twenty-nine Discovery Clubs are active on Abaco, Andros, Eleuthera, Exuma, Grand Bahama, Inagua and New Providence.
